I’m the Dirty Radical, your friendly neighborhood crust punk and anarchist hailing from Aotearoa (New Zealand). Brace yourselves, folks, because I’ve officially hit peak millennial status with my very first blog.
When I am pretending to be a ‘real person’ with a career inside the capitalist machine I tell people that “I am a climate and social justice advocate and educator, focused on empowering communities with the necessary skills and strategies to take action to imagine, restore, and create a healthy environment for humans and our more than human kin. My background studies are in Sociology and I have been privileged to devise my own ethnographical and experiential research program through travel.” Really I am just a bum, muddling through, trying to figure my shit out.
The fight is against the ideologies of Capitalism, Colonialism, White Supremacy, and the Extractivist Machine. It’s a fight to halt the destructive grasp of capitalist extractivism that the west is addicted to, a force that ravages the environment, fuels conflicts, and exploits entire populations. I advocate for Degrowth and uphold every individual’s right to Self Determination, as long as it does not infringe upon the rights of others. This struggle extends beyond our own communities to encompass the well-being of our planet and all its inhabitants.
I have spent over a year tripping across Europe, crashing at various climate/political camps, squats, occupations, and engaging with activist groups. I have been actively researching their various methods of organisation and mobilisation strategies Delving into people’s motivations for activism and exploring their diverse theories of change.
I hope these blogs will be informative, some times funny and mostly empowering. I believe that knowledge should be shared, not horded by institutions behind pay walls so I will do my best to share what I learn in an accessible format. I will probably fail miserably and not always get everything right so if you see something you think I need to edit or do some more research on feel free to send me some constructive feed back.
